Welcome Live Steamers & Railroad Hobbyists

Plan to join your live steam friends for four days of trains, food, fellowship and fun. This is a private event for members of LALSRM and other train clubs as well as railroad hobbyists. There will be no public train rides on Sunday, May 26.

Tracks in 4 Gauges; Automated Signals

Los Angeles Live Steamers is located on 12 acres in Griffith Park, Los Angeles at 5202 Zoo Drive. We have tracks in four gauges: from Gauge-1 to 7-1/2”, 4-3/4”, and 3-1/2”. Our layout includes a block signal system with more than 80 signals, a 68-foot truss bridge, three tunnels and several other bridges. (The garden scale railroad is currently under renovation.) Our facility offers 44 steaming bays and two hydraulic lifts. Steaming bays are available first come, first served.

We Have a New Yard with Lots of Parking

Friday Evening Kickoff

The official start of the Spring Meet is our complimentary Friday evening Spaghetti Dinner at 6 pm, prepared by our Board of Directors. Of course, you may come earlier to unload your trains and hit the rails. After dinner enjoy a movie and a night of running and riding trains. On Saturday breakfast and lunch can be purchased in our Kountry Kitchen, and the Souvenir Table will be open all day with lots of items, including t-shirts, hats, patches and more. On Sunday, breakfast and lunch can be purchased at the Kountry Kitchen; we will not be offering supper, but there are many good restaurants close-by in the Burbank area. Monday morning we will offer a continental breakfast.

Special Events on Saturday

Our President’s Auction at 1:30 pm Saturday is a much anticipated event. Your railroad-related donations are welcome and will add to the fun; contact Don Kallgren to coordinate: 818.235.7058.

Walt Disney’s Carolwood Barn

Walt Disney’s Carolwood Barn will be open for tours on Saturday from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm.

Bingo – with great prizes – is a fun time for all ages on Saturday afternoon at 3:30.

Locomotive Requirements

LALSRM has three train yards with two turntables and 44 steaming bays, and two hydraulic lifts for access to our tracks. A self-check gauge for rolling stock is available next to the hydraulic lift behind the yellow Doug House. Steam Locomotives: Current boiler inspection tags, spark arrestors, ash pans required. Visiting steam locos can be hydro-tested as personnel is available. Please bring your own propane fuel, if using.

Night Operations

You must have FREDs and running/parking lights.

Camping and Parking are Free

RV and tent camping are available at no cost, starting at 12 noon Wednesday (let us know if you plan to come earlier). There will be marked spaces for RV camper parking in our Members’ Parking Lot. Inside the gate, Crystal Springs Drive will have about three or four spaces for RV campers – first come, first served. Approximately six spaces will be reserved for handicapped parking (vehicles only). Signage will be posted for your convenience. Vehicles bringing equipment may use our inner parking lots for unloading and loading only. No parking in either inner lot during the Meet. There will be plenty of free parking in our Members’ Parking Lot.
